december daily

From the first time I heard about Ali Edwards’ idea of keeping a December Daily album, I’ve wanted to make one. And every year December comes and goes without me even attempting to start one. Although, last year I did manage to keep a notebook with December Daily items jotted down along with an envelope filled with memorabilia – I thought I would create the album later, but of course, that never happened. So this year I finally planned ahead! I put the foundation pages to my album together in October! These pages are very basic and just a starting point, but I’m ready to go once December begins! For those of you new to the December Daily concept, it’s basically creating an album with a page or spread for each day of December. You add a daily entry and end the month with an album full of December memories. You can read more about the December Daily on Ali Edwards’ blog.

I selected a double ring binder type album. This is a lush, fabric covered one that Fancy Pants released quite some time ago. I love this shade of red! Gorgeous! My challenge will be, not to overload my pages with dimensional items so that my album becomes so thick that I can’t close it. For those of you familiar with my scrapbooking you know how hard of a challenge that will be for me! But, if I fail and this baby gets too thick, I’ll just create some chipboard covers for it, bind it with clip rings, and save my lovely red album for another project.

I’ve used this gorgeous flocked transparency from Fancy Pants’ Tradition collection throughout my album. I’m actually planning to use the entire Tradition collection for my album. I decided for my first go at this I would keep it simple by using one collection and maybe adding bits and pieces from others here and there.

Ali Edwards has a lot of beautiful December Daily templates, overlays and digital brushes for purchase at Designer Digitals. I chose to create my own template to fit my album page size. I set up a very simple spread in a drawing program on my computer and printed the pages onto cardstock. I’ll fill the blocks with photos, papers, journaling and embellishments. Using a template will help me put the pages together more quickly. Let's face it, December is crazy busy and there will be days I only have a few minutes to spare for my daily entry.

I included some baseball pocket pages, trimmed down to fit my album. Right now I just have some pieces of flocked transparencies in some of the pockets. I’ll fill the other ones up with photos, papers and such. This fabulous idea is from Ali Edwards.

I’ve included a few pages from the Tradition Journal Notebook. These uniquely shaped smaller pages add some fun variety to the album.

This is a printed transparency also from Fancy Pants’ Tradition collection. I really love to use a variety of materials for my mini album pages. It's just more interesting that way.

If you are familiar with the December Daily concept you may have noticed the lack of numbers on my pages. I’m planning to add those later as I make my daily entries. I think I will use my Silhouette to cut them from cardstock or patterned paper, probably all in the same font, but maybe different sizes.

So that's it! My foundation is set and ready to go once December arrives! I am going to try to add photos of my completed pages here...it may not be every day, but I'll try to add them regularly, so stay tuned!

Now if you stuck with me through this entire post I think you deserve a chance at a prize! I have one Fancy Pants' Hot Chocolate collection pack to give away.

Simply leave a comment on this post to be entered into the drawing. Please don't forget to check back to see if you've won. If you want, include your email address with your comment and I'll contact you if you're the winner.

Only one entry per person please. You must live in the continental United States to enter. You have until Sunday, November 21st at midnight EST to enter. I will randomly draw one winner and post their name here on Monday, November 22nd.

Thanks for stopping by!

Your album is beautiful so far! I love the red damask transparency. I have been meaning to start my DD album since October, but haven't yet... I'm a college student and have had more exams than one person should, lol! The Hot Chocolate collection would be great for my album. I'm planning on starting right after my final final exam... counting down to December 17!

This is also my first year doing a December Daily album, and I'm pretty excited about it! Mostly excited about sharing the magic of the season with my family and friends, but the fact that I'm going to highlight and document that with scrapbooking is definitely an added bonus! :) Also, cute blog here, glad I stopped by! Enjoy your holidays, Sheri

Yup, your DD album looks great: simple and elegant. I've collected all my stuff and plan to put the album together this weekend. I got a link to your site from Ali Edwards on Facebook. Thanks for this wonderful opportunity - you're so generous!

Jill said...

I'm using the same album! Picked it up at Scenic Route a few months ago, along with the pale blue model (which I've already used). Love them - a bit more compact than the AC 8x8 albums - wish I could still purchase more!

I agree, keeping the pages will be a challenge for me as well. I'm looking at it as a refreshing opportunity. My past 2 holiday daily albums have been full of dimensional accents. This will be the year to add interest with flatter items. I'm up for it!

This is my first year to try December Daily too! Still trying to find "stuff" to round out my album.

I haven't even been keeping up with the blogs I love. I really like that December Daily album idea. What a great way to capture all the magic at this time of year.
